What is a domain name?

Domain names are the “address” of your website on the internet. They convert a IP address (such as 192.168.1.1) into an easier to remember name such as qctech.co.uk. Your domain name points to your web hosting to make your website easy to find.

Why do I need web hosting?

Think of web hosting as a home where you store all of your things. Web hosts manage these servers and make it easy for you to host your site so visitors globally can access these website files. But, for your website to be online, you also need a domain name.

What are your support hours?

It is imperative to both QCT and our customers that our support is UK based. The team are available between 8:00 – 18:00 Monday through Friday. Gareth Westwood, our Director, is available out of those hours for emergency support.

Why are you using Amazon Web Services?

We had been with our previous hosting provider, a local Manchester based company, for about 15 years. Their business has developed and they have moved away from providing the kind of hosting we need and into other areas. We needed to find a new partner to work with so after an extensive search we picked Amazon because of their ease of use, industry recognition, security practices and redundancy options.

What billing cycles do you have?

All of our billing cycles will be monthly with a 30 day cancellation period. We don’t want to tie people into long term contracts and prefer to know you are choosing to stay with us because we do a good job rather than because your contract says you have to!

What payment methods do you accept?

We can accept cash, cheque, PayPal, credit/debit card and beer however our preferred method of payment is BACS / Electronic transfer as it’s generally quicker and easier for everyone. If you would like to make payments using a system other than BACS then please get in touch.

What is web hosting?

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and businesses to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web.

How secure are the servers?

We follow IT Security best practices to ensure that our servers are as safe and secure as they can be. Two factor authentication, complex passwords, encryption, automatic updates and firewalls are in in place on our hosting AND backup servers.

How will I be billed?

You will receive an email with your invoice at the start of every month. Our preferred method of payment is BACS / Electronic transfer although we can discuss other options should that not work for you. We are unable to set up a direct debit but you could set up a standing order with your bank.

Can I pay annually?

If you wanted to multiply your monthly bill by 12 and make one payment then we won’t complain. We will apply the credit to your account and deduct it from each monthly invoice until the credit is fully allocated.

What happens if I’m not happy with my package?

We will use all of the information available to us in order to recommended a package. Occasionally we might get that wrong so the first thing to do is get in touch. We will also be monitoring the site usage and if we think you need to move package we will let you know.
